I Think We All Know Those Toys Aren't Free

Yahoo News and Reuters brings us the delightful news that Denmark is seeking to claim the North Pole and drill for oil. Well, they're going to be in for quite a shock when they find that its oil supplies are close to 90% depleted. Yep, that's right kids - Santa has been using oil revenue to pay for your Christmas gifts.

I think we all understand the complexity of sound energy policy, and can agree we're facing not one, but two, major crisis. The first is the depletion of world oil supplies. The second is of course, the end of Christmas. What OPEC and the governments haven't told you is that the recent record high oil prices are a symptom not just of mid-east instability, but Santa's dwindling reserves.

Read the Reuters Story

For almost a century Santa has been dumping cheap oil into the markets to fund his Christmas giveaway. As those wells dry up, so will the hopes and wishes of children everywhere. Denmark is going to be disappointed to find barren ground, but kids everywhere will be devastated to find an empty stocking on Christmas Day.

What do you want for Christmas, Timmy? A sound energy policy? With Kyoto Protocal quotas?

Oh. Just an Xbox? Ok.
